About our Speaker

Kamieka Hairston, a native of North Carolina, moved to Sacramento in 2007 to start a corporate finance position at Intel Corporation. Following eleven years in the high-tech industry, she transitioned to the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), where she currently serves within the finance division in the role of finance business partner for several business units.

Kamieka established her educational background in accounting and finance by earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, NC. Subsequently, she obtained a Master of Business Administration degree from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH, and completed a post-baccalaureate certification program in Writing and Editing at the University of California, Berkeley.

Kamieka has extended her leadership beyond her professional environment by serving in various leadership capacities within the Sacramento community. She is a 2012 Senior Fellow of the Nehemiah Emerging Leaders Program – a ten-month development program designed for up-and-coming Sacramento leaders, a 2012 Sacramento Business Journal 40 Under 40 honoree, a 2013 Northern California Exceptional Woman of Color honoree, and a 2024 Scott Hawkins Leadership Institute Fellow. Additionally, she has served on the Board of Directors for both the Center for Fathers and Families and the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

Kamieka is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, where she has occupied various leadership roles, notably serving as Chapter President of the Sigma Delta Omega chapter for four years. Furthermore, she is a member of the Sacramento (CA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, where she serves as Chapter Treasurer. In her free time, Kamieka enjoys engaging in volunteer work, organizing dinner parties, exploring restaurants, and traveling abroad.

Kamieka’s leadership background has involved student recruitment to various colleges and universities throughout the country.  This includes recruiting students to attend Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
