Each year, members of Soroptimist International of Sacramento have opportunities for voluntary giving. Among those projects, some fall under the categories of Random Acts of Kindness or International Goodwill and Understanding, detailed below.
On a random basis, the club decides if it wants to participate in a spontaneous activity on a voluntary individual basis. These have included projects like Sacramento County’s Gifts from the Heart for Holiday gifts for Foster children and Valentine Baskets for shut-in elderly women; Summer reading books for 2nd grade children at a title I elementary school; collecting diapers for Birth and Beyond; and encouragement and support for Single Moms Strong’s annual celebration.
As Soroptimist is an international federation, there are from time to time international activities in which our club wishes to participate. Sometimes they are monetary, and sometimes they are an activity. As these needs arise, our club evaluates them and decides whether to participate or not. Some of those activities have included: making dresses for schoolgirls in Africa; donating money for water projects in arid areas; donating money to clear mine fields in a war-torn country; or exchanging communications with Soroptimist clubs in other countries.
Soroptimist is a global volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment.
